Before Your Tattoo
1. Hydrate & Rest
Ensure your body is well-hydrated and rested before your session. A fresh, nourished body helps the skin take ink more smoothly and improves overall comfort during the tattoo process.
2. Avoid Alcohol & Blood Thinners
Refrain from alcohol, aspirin, or other blood-thinning substances at least 24 hours before your appointment. This reduces the risk of excess bleeding and ensures better ink saturation.
3. Clean & Bare Skin
Arrive with clean, lotion-free skin on the area to be tattooed. Avoid applying oils, creams, or makeup over the spot to ensure optimal hygiene and adherence of the stencil.
4. Dress Comfortably
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area. Consider something you don’t mind potentially getting small ink stains on.
5. Eat Before Your Session
Have a balanced meal before your appointment to maintain energy and reduce lightheadedness. A light snack is also helpful if the session is long.
After Your Tattoo
1. Keep It Clean
Gently wash the tattooed area with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean towel or tissue — never rub.
2. Moisturize Carefully
Apply a thin layer of recommended tattoo ointment or fragrance-free moisturizer. Avoid over-applying; a little goes a long way.
3. Avoid Direct Sun & Water Immersion
Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight and avoid swimming, hot tubs, or prolonged soaking for at least 2–3 weeks. UV light and chlorine can damage the healing skin and fade the ink.
4. Do Not Scratch or Pick
It’s normal for the tattoo to scab or itch as it heals. Resist scratching or peeling to prevent scarring or ink loss.
5. Wear Loose Clothing
Ensure clothing does not rub or irritate the tattoo while it’s healing. Soft, breathable fabrics work best.
6. Follow Up
If you notice any unusual redness, swelling, or irritation, contact your artist promptly. A follow-up session may be scheduled if touch-ups are needed after the healing period.
